Program Description

Geared towards pre-K and kinder students, this STEAM CLUB class teaches the basics of the scientific method through experiments, engineering lessons, and creative thinking. Learn to build the technology of tomorrow with LEGO WeDo 2.0 sets and robot building.
STEAM subjects are integrated into hands-on projects that help children practice numeracy, literacy, problem-solving, and fine motor skills. Through these activities, kids are familiarized with concepts such as physics (energy and motion), prototyping, and design. Each class follows curriculum-specific learning outcomes and incorporates creative free time with various technologies and materials. This class is held at ASIJ’s Early Learning Center.

Activities Include:

  • Cardboard engineering and stop-motion animation
  • Build 3D models based on 2D renderings
  • Design and build robots; learn to control them with simple iPad commands
  • Build a marble maze and challenge a friend to solve it
  • Build an art-bot capable of drawing continuous circles using LEGO WeDo 2.0 kits
  • Learn about the different kinds of bridges and build one with your classmates using STRAWBEES
  • Design, build, and test your very own invention using a variety of materials
  • Build a lava lamp and find out why oil and water do not mix!
  • Build a mars rover with cardboard, rubber bands, pipe cleaners, bottle caps, and other materials
